6 deep mince pies by Sainsbury's
Now these look familiar .. may well be the same packaging from last year ... did find it weird that the best before date is 27 Dec - how is that even possible???
Anyhoo ... the pies look good .. adorned with two little Holly leaves with matching berries.
The pastry was considerably dryer (less buttery) than the Coop ones which is actually more to my taste. However I did think it lacked any sweetness - if any sugar ever was sprinkled on these babies, it has long since disappeared.
That said the mince was much more superior than that of the coops .. actual real chunks of fruit in there, very nice!
For me ... the Sainsbury pie definately packed more punch than Co-ops (although obviously noone can do nicer Crisps than Coop's truly irresistable sea salt and chardonnay wine vinegar but that's another story) and so for that reason I am happy to award them 7 Christmas crackers out of a possible 10.
A little bit more sugar on top and it may have even squeezed a 7.5!!
So what's next....... who has created the perfect mince pie??? I hope to find out!!
